Their Blood Painted Lebanon’s True Image: Hezbollah Vows Unity as It Honors Slain Journalists on Press Martyrs’ Anniversary

The blood of journalists recently killed by Israeli forces is still “fresh,” Hezbollah said Wednesday as it marked the annual commemoration of press martyrs, calling for national unity and resistance against what it termed the “Zionist killing machine.”

In a statement released by the group’s Media Relations Office, Hezbollah declared that this year’s observance arrives while “the blood of our colleagues, journalists and media professionals, is still fresh pure bloodshed in cold blood by the treacherous hand of the Zionists as they were carrying out their noble mission of conveying the truth about the crimes of this enemy, devoid of all human values.”

The statement praised fallen journalists across Lebanon’s history, saying they “painted, across the expanse of Lebanon, with the ink of their blood, the true image of the homeland: a homeland of sovereignty, unity, and tolerance.”

“With their courage, they laid the foundations of freedom and independence, and they were witnesses to truth and justice,” the statement continued. “They lived and died for all of Lebanon, for its sovereignty, dignity, and honor. They confronted the occupation in all its forms, transforming the pen into a deadly weapon and the word into a platform of resistance against injustice and aggression.”

Hezbollah saluted “the martyrs of the word, voice, and image, and the partners in the battle to defend humanity, dignity, and our homeland Lebanon,” while urging adherence to the national mission for which they gave their lives.

The group called for drawing inspiration from the journalists’ principles “in promoting dialogue and tolerance, and enshrining the concepts of harmony and love among the sons of the same nation.” It also stressed that the anniversary should serve “as an incentive to strengthen the bonds of national unity, reject all forms of division and discord, and stand united against the enemies of truth, freedom, and humanity.”
