Breach of Truce Questions US’ Diplomatic Seriousness: Iran’s Araqchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said recent US violations of the ceasefire and provocative actions in the Persian Gulf have increased suspicions about Washington’s motives and seriousness in pursuing diplomacy.
Araqchi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Friday, in which the two sides discussed major regional developments.

During the phone call, the Iranian foreign minister informed Fidan about the latest developments regarding Iran’s diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at bringing a definitive end to the war of aggression imposed by the US and the Zionist regime.

Referring to recent provocative US moves in the Persian Gulf and offensive and insulting rhetoric by senior American officials, Araqchi said recent tension-creating actions by the US forces in the Persian Gulf and repeated violations of the ceasefire have deepened doubts about the US side’s intentions and commitment to diplomacy.

He described the US approach as destructive and said it is undermining the diplomatic process while deepening the Iranian nation’s mistrust toward Washington’s intentions.

Araqchi also said that halting illegal acts of aggression and abandoning excessive and unreasonable approaches by the opposing side are necessary for advancing the ongoing diplomatic process.

For his part, Fidan underlined the need to continue diplomatic efforts to end the war and reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the ongoing diplomatic process in this regard.
