Hezbollah MP: Any Israeli Presence Is Occupation, Negotiations Without Strength Amount to Surrender

Lebanese MP Ali Fayyad, Mamber of Hezbollah's Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc.

Member of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc MP Ali Fayyad stressed that “any Israeli presence on our land, regardless of its nature, form, or size, is an occupation that must be resisted and confronted relentlessly,” underscoring that this principle must remain “clear to everyone,” even amid an imbalance of power.

Speaking at a memorial service held by Hezbollah in Bir Hassan for the two martyred brothers Abdul-Munim Hassan Taleb and Ahmed Hassan Taleb, MP Fayyad described the resistance’s current role as “purely defensive,” emphasizing that “the objective is defense, not deterrence.”

“Deterrence is exercised when the land is liberated, but today the resistance is defending its existence, its land, and its people, an evident and natural function that should be beyond debate or political division,” he added, according to Hezbollah’s Media Relations.

The lawmaker argued that this role remains essential even within negotiations, warning that “a negotiator who lacks elements of strength… is negotiating his own defeat, surrender, and submission to the enemy’s conditions.” He described this as “the fatal flaw of the Lebanese negotiator,” accusing authorities of having “stripped the resistance of its legal cover, abandoned it, and entered into conflict with it… without achieving any gains whatsoever.”

He further criticized the government’s response to ongoing Israeli attacks, stating that while Lebanon is engaged in direct negotiations, the country’s south is facing “a comprehensive campaign of annihilation and destruction,” with civilians targeted even in Beirut. The government’s official response, he said, has been “lukewarm, superficial, meaningless, and ineffective… as if these people were not its own.”

MP Fayyad noted growing public pressure on the government to condition any negotiations on “a complete and comprehensive ceasefire,” questioning what justifies continued engagement while “Israel escalates its destruction and incursions” and “the United States maintains its blatant bias and betrays its role as mediator.”

Calling for national unity, he said: “The scale of the conspiracy, the dangers, and the pressures do not allow any single party to confront them alone. This necessitates that the Lebanese unite their capabilities.” He urged authorities to “utilize the role of the resistance and not squander it,” and to benefit from “the sincere and decisive role” of Iran in ending Israeli aggression and securing withdrawal.

“Unfortunately,” he added, “the Lebanese authorities seem deaf to this advice… floundering aimlessly in the tunnel of direct negotiations… only accumulating concessions and losses.”

MP Fayyad concluded by saluting resistance fighters in southern Lebanon, saying they are engaged in a “martyrdom-seeking confrontation” and that “every resistance fighter on the land of southern Lebanon is a martyr.” He described their blood as “the ink of the covenant,” affirming a continued commitment to “liberating the land, returning residents to border villages, and bringing back the prisoners.”
