The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced it had downed a US MQ-9 drone near the Strait of Hormuz, as military clashes intensify following American aggression and repeated breaches of a ceasefire.
In a statement on Wednesday, the IRGC said a General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper was intercepted and destroyed over the city of Jam in Iran’s Bushehr Province amid ongoing confrontations near the strategic Strait.
“During the ongoing aerial engagements in the Strait of Hormuz, an MQ-9 drone that intended to approach and intervene in the battle zone from the skies over the northern Persian Gulf was struck and destroyed by fire from the heroic fighters of the IRGC’s modern air defense forces in the skies over the city of Jam in Bushehr Province,” the statement said.
The incident came as Iran mounted a strong response to a US attack on its assets near the Strait of Hormuz, following the crash of a US Army Apache helicopter.
