Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz, Strikes US Bases in Retaliation for American Missile Attack

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels and oil tankers until further notice, holding the United States responsible for the escalating security crisis. This dramatic move came as Iran launched multiple waves of missile and drone strikes against US military positions across the region, following an American attack on Iranian soil.

The confrontation between the United States and Iran entered an unprecedented phase of escalation early Thursday morning, after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the launch of a military attack on Iranian territory using dozens of missiles. This dangerous escalation was swiftly met with an Iranian military response targeting US bases and sites in several regional countries, fueling fears that the crisis could spiral into a full-blown regional conflict.

CENTCOM announced the launch of 49 Tomahawk missiles toward targets inside Iran, while simultaneous explosions were heard in the southern cities of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, Sirik, and Minab.

Local reports indicated at least three explosions occurred near Bandar Abbas around 1:20 AM, while residents of Qeshm Island and the city of Sirik reported hearing a series of blasts. In the initial hours, the nature of the targets and the extent of the damage remained unclear.

In Minab, local sources reported that missile shrapnel fell in the Kargan area, injuring two people who were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Reports also emerged of an intercepted enemy cruise missile in the Asaluyeh region. However, local authorities in Bushehr province confirmed that no gas or oil facilities sustained any damage, indicating that the situation in the area remained stable.

Amid these military developments, US President Donald Trump claimed in a Fox News interview that Iranian officials had contacted him directly requesting a halt to military operations. He announced a temporary suspension of attacks but simultaneously threatened to resume bombing if Tehran did not comply with US demands.

Trump also claimed that the ceasefire with Iran had become one of the most violated truce agreements in history. However, a high-ranking Iranian official categorically denied these statements, asserting that any talk of direct contact or negotiations with the US president to stop the attacks was “pure fabrication” and completely baseless.

Tehran was quick to respond to the American aggression. Iraqi sources reported that the Harir base, which houses US forces in Erbil, northern Iraq, was targeted by a missile attack, while Iraqi media reported that a US radar system in the Kurdistan Region was destroyed. In Bahrain, the Iranian military announced a drone attack on the US Fifth Fleet, stating that the operation targeted communications antennas, radar installations, and Patriot missile systems belonging to US forces.

Reports also emerged of attacks on US naval vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, with some indications of damage to a warship—information also circulated by Israeli media.

As part of a broader military response, the Aerospace Force and Navy of the IRGC announced two waves of strikes targeting 18 US military sites at the Ali Al Salem and Ahmed Al Jaber air bases in Kuwait and the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.

The IRGC explained that these operations were in retaliation for US attacks targeting IRGC and Internal Security Forces service facilities, coastal guard posts, and the vicinity of Bandar Abbas Airport, confirming that the designated targets were destroyed.

In a further escalation, the IRGC Aerospace Force announced the launch of 12 ballistic missiles at the Azraq Air Base and its command and control center, confirming that it targeted sites housing US F-35, F-15, and F-16 fighter jets, as well as other military installations it described as important.

The IRGC stated that the strike destroyed parts of the military base, military equipment and supplies, and a number of US aircraft, emphasizing that operations would continue as long as US aggression persists.

On the defensive front, the IRGC announced that Iranian air defenses forced a US F-16 fighter jet to withdraw from Gulf airspace after launching a defensive missile at it.

Air defense systems were also activated in several Iranian regions, including the Rabat Karim area near Tehran, as part of efforts to counter potential aerial threats.

In a major strategic development, the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters and Navy announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels and oil tankers until further notice, holding the United States responsible for the deteriorating security situation in the region.
