The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), the body responsible for monitoring the Strait of Hormuz, has announced the full closure of the strategic waterway until further notice, citing rising regional tensions and recent military developments.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the authority linked the decision to escalating tensions involving US aggression on Iran, as well as announcements made by Iran’s armed forces.
“In light of the tensions created by the invading American forces in the region and the announcement by Iran’s armed forces last night, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice,” the statement read in Persian, according to the body’s official X account.
The PGSA also addressed maritime operators and individuals holding transit permissions, urging patience while further instructions are issued.

“Applicants who have received passage permits are requested to remain patient and await further guidance from the PGSA,” it added.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy chokepoint, connects the Persian Gulf to the open sea and is one of the world’s most strategically sensitive shipping routes. Any disruption in its operation is closely watched by global markets due to its role in international oil and gas transport.
Earlier last night, US President Donald Trump ordered a fresh round of aggression against Iran last night in a clear breach of a ceasefire that took effect on April 8. He later told Fox News that American forces had launched 49 Tomahawk missiles in the latest attacks.
The Islamic Republic retaliated by carrying our missile attacks targeting US bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.
