Aoun Hails US-Iran MoU Stipulations regarding Cessation of Hostilities in Entire Region including Lebanon

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said in a statement on Monday, “I followed with interest the announcement of the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and what it included in terms of confirmation of the cessation of military actions and escalation in the region, including Lebanon.”

In this context, Aoun appreciated “what this memorandum included in terms of respect for Lebanese privacy and the acknowledgment that Lebanon’s stability and security constitute an integral part of any serious endeavor to consolidate stability in the region, after the sacrifices and heavy burdens borne by the Lebanese during the past period.”

He added, “The Lebanese people, especially the dwellers of the areas that were subjected to attacks and destruction as well as loss of loved ones, livelihoods, and homes, look forward today to these understandings turning into practical steps that put a final end to the cycle of violence and establish a phase of stability, security, recovery, and reconstruction.”

He also thanked all the countries and entities that contributed to the completion of this memorandum, and to everyone who worked to include Lebanon in the efforts aimed at ending the escalation and stopping military operations on various fronts, based on their awareness of the extent of the suffering that the Lebanese have endured during the past months.

He also expressed his hope that “this development will mark the beginning of a broader path that enhances stability in the region, preserves the sovereignty of states and the rights of their people, and allows the Lebanese to devote themselves to rebuilding what has been destroyed and restoring their normal lives in a safe and stable state.”
