President General Joseph Aoun received, on Monday evening, a phone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Abbas Araghchi. During the call, they discussed the current regional developments and a number of files of mutual interest.

During the call, Aoun welcomed “the understanding reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America,” expressing his hope that “it would constitute a positive step toward de-escalating tensions and opening the way for diplomatic solutions that contribute to strengthening security and stability at both the regional and international levels.” He stressed “the importance of continuing political and diplomatic efforts aimed at consolidating sustainable stability in the region, which would reflect positively on its countries and peoples.” He also emphasized that “Lebanon’s stability, security, and sovereignty remain a national priority.”

For his part, Araghchi stressed “the importance of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by all parties,” expressing his aspiration that “the positive atmosphere created by this understanding would contribute to supporting stability in Lebanon and enhancing opportunities for recovery and prosperity in it.”

In the same context, Araghchi made a phone call on Monday evening to Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, during which they discussed the latest developments and updates in Lebanon and the region, and the terms of the agreement between Iran and the United States of America, which included a key clause stipulating a halt to Israeli aggression against Lebanon. Araghchi briefed Speaker Berri on the details of the agreement terms, particularly the cessation of war on Lebanon, affirming that “this clause must enter into force and be implemented literally and immediately, from the first day and throughout the agreed 60-day negotiation period, and that guaranteeing its commitment is the responsibility of the United States of America and the guarantors of the memorandum of understanding.”

Speaker Berri also thanked “the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as regional and international parties, for their support and backing for Lebanon at this current stage.”
