The Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council affirmed, in a phone call with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, that ending the war in Lebanon, and this country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, constitutes an important part of the first clause of the “Islamabad Understanding” between Iran and the United States.
Qalibaf added: “Our goal is to put an end to the war in Lebanon, the return of the displaced to their homes, the ending of the occupation, and the withdrawal of the Zionist entity from Lebanese territory, and we are following up on this matter very seriously.”
Qalibaf also pointed out that in the Switzerland talks, and after a serious indication by the Iranian negotiating delegation of violations of this clause, it was decided to establish a “Conflict Control Unit” comprising Iran, the United States, and Lebanon, with this unit tasked with overseeing the implementation of this clause in Lebanon.
For his part, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament expressed his appreciation for the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian negotiating delegation, and said that what you followed up on in Switzerland is in the interest of the Lebanese people, but the Zionist enemy is trying to circumvent the issue of restoring Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within the framework of the Islamabad Understanding by other means.
Speaker Berri clarified that the “Washington Understanding” between Lebanon and the Zionist entity is a conspiracy and sedition, and Imam Ali (PBUH) said: “Sedition is worse than killing.”
In conclusion, Qalibaf and Berri stressed in this phone call the necessity of holding a meeting for the “Conflict Control Unit” as soon as possible to control the war in Lebanon and end it.
