Israeli occupation authorities have prevented the call to prayer (Adhan) at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil (Hebron) in occupied West Bank for the ninth consecutive day while accelerating construction work aimed at altering its historical and Islamic features, according to the site’s endowments director.

Ghassan Al-Jabri, director of Islamic Endowments in Hebron, said on Monday that occupation forces have also tightened a security cordon around the mosque, restricting access and oversight.

He added that occupation authorities removed him and the head of the mosque’s custodians from the site in a move aimed at preventing the documentation of ongoing violations.

Al-Jabri warned that the continued measures form part of a broader effort to change the identity and status of the Ibrahimi Mosque, amid mounting restrictions on religious practices at the site.

Earlier last week, the Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs warned that the Israeli measures are aimed at imposing a “new Judaization reality” inside the mosque, in violation of international laws and agreements that guarantee the protection of places of worship and archaeological and religious sites.

The Ibrahimi Mosque is “a purely Islamic endowment in its entirety, including its courtyards, arcades, and walls,” the ministry said, stressing that “Israel has no right to interfere in its affairs or alter any part of its urban and historical structure.”
