Qatar’s Prime Minister has reaffirmed Doha’s commitment to mediating talks between Washington and Tehran, as senior US envoys including President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in the Qatari capital for high-stakes diplomatic discussions.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized his nation’s steadfast support for all tracks of negotiations stemming from the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding, according to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday. The talks aim to forge “a comprehensive and sustainable solution that enhances regional security, safeguards the interests of its people, and supports international peace and stability,” the Prime Minister said.

The Qatari leader’s remarks came during a meeting with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, where they reviewed the latest developments in ongoing US-Iranian negotiations and explored efforts to bolster security and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.

The discussions also touched on broader regional developments, with particular focus on the ceasefire in Lebanon. The Qatari and US officials underscored the importance of consolidating and building upon the fragile truce in a manner that preserves Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and long-term stability.

In response, the two US envoys expressed Washington’s appreciation for Qatar’s mediation role, carried out in partnership with Pakistan, and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing the negotiation process while supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement.

Earlier, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner had arrived in Doha specifically to meet with Qatari mediators.

However, any direct US-Iranian encounter appears unlikely in the immediate term. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that the Iranian negotiating team has no plans to meet with the American delegation in the coming days. Instead, Baghaei indicated that talks scheduled for Wednesday between Iran and Qatar would focus on the implementation of certain provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding, including the critical issue of releasing frozen Iranian assets.

“What will most likely take place in Doha is discussions with the Qatari side regarding the implementation of certain provisions of the memorandum of understanding,” Baghaei told reporters, clarifying that the Iranian team’s agenda does not currently include direct engagement with US officials.

The diplomatic push comes as regional powers intensify efforts to de-escalate tensions and find common ground between Washington and Tehran, with Qatar positioning itself as an indispensable intermediary in one of the Middle East’s most enduring geopolitical flashpoints.
