New Escalation on the Golan Frontier: Israeli Shells Hit Agricultural Belt in Daraa

Artillery shelling targeted rural areas in Daraa and Quneitra on Thursday, marking the latest in a series of cross-border strikes that continue to destabilize agricultural communities along the front lines with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Israeli occupation forces launched multiple artillery barrages against positions in the western countryside of Daraa and the southern rural zones of Quneitra on Thursday, Syrian state media and local sources reported. The bombardment struck the outskirts of Abdeen and Jamla villages in the Yarmouk Basin, as well as agricultural plots situated between the towns of Bariqa and Kodna. No casualties were reported in the attacks.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the first shell landed near Abdeen village, while a second projectile targeted farmland adjacent to Jamla in the western sector of Daraa province. The strikes were concurrent with the appearance of Israeli reconnaissance aircraft conducting low-altitude overflights above the affected areas, a pattern often observed during such military operations.

In a separate incident, SANA confirmed that three additional artillery shells hit farmland along the boundary separating Bariqa village and Kodna town in the southern Quneitra countryside. Local sources indicated that the shelling caused material damage to agricultural infrastructure but resulted in no injuries.

Villages and towns along this volatile frontier are routinely subjected to Israeli military actions, which residents say severely disrupt daily life, jeopardize seasonal harvests, and undermine efforts to maintain stability in the region. The persistent threat of bombardment has forced many farmers to abandon their land during peak cultivation periods, compounding the economic strain on communities already battered by years of conflict.

The Israeli occupation military has not issued an official statement regarding Thursday’s shelling, though such strikes are typically framed as responses to alleged rocket fire or Iranian entrenchment in the area.
