Reporters without borders organization said on Thursday that a Bahraini court issued a three-month sentence against the journalist Faisal Hiatt over a tweet he posted earlier.
The organization issued a statement indicating that the journalist and blogger Faisal Hiatt, who runs the satirical channel on YouTube has been accused on Tuesday of insulting a religious figure and religious group on Twitter, noting that Hiatt is under detention since Oct. 9 without disclosing the content of the tweet.
Reporters Without Borders called on the Bahraini authorities to “release Faisal Hiatt and Nabeel Rajab immediately and unconditionally,” as well as all Internet users who were arrested and imprisoned simply for practicing their right to freedom of expression, urging the Bahraini authorities “to commit to the international standards of human rights, including where the ICCPR and the Universal Declaration, through respecting the right to freedom of expression without any restrictions.”
