Lebanese caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hasan announced Monday that the Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Public Health had recommended the suspension of all flights from UK, over concerns about a new strain of coronavirus.
Hasan added that contacts with labs were underway in order to conduct DNA sequencing test to identify whether the locally spreading virus is Covid-19 or the new strain.
“It is highly unlikely that the new strain will affect the response to the vaccine,” he said.
The minister also urged the coronavirus ministerial committee to take the adequate measures regarding the fresh recommendation of the Health Ministry’s scientific panel.
He noted, meanwhile, that additional measures are being taken at Beirut International Airport with passengers coming from UK, especially regarding the days of quarantine.
