Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi strongly protested to the US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz on extension of sanctions against Iran.
In a meeting with Moniz on Sunday evening on the sidelines of the International Conference on Nuclear Security organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, the Iranian nuclear chief voiced Iran’s strong protest to the issue and expressed grave concern over the extension of Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) by the US Congress.
He further stressed Iran’s right to opt for any necessary actions.
Pointing to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s full commitment to all obligations under JCPOA confirmed by IAEA and expressing Iran’s severe protest and serious concern over ISA extension in Congress and affirming the Islamic Republic’s right for any appropriate response, Salehi called for US commitment to its obligations under JCPOA, especially to prevent the enforcement of the bill.
Moniz said he will inform the US president of Iran’s objections, stating that the US administration is committed to the JCPOA, adding that the American president will use its powers to stop the execution of those parts of the bill that should not be implemented according to the JCPOA.
