Lebanese caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hasan thanked Syria over delivery of oxygen to Lebanon, noting that betting on brothers during crises is a correct choice.
Following a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Hassan Al-Ghabbash in Damascus, the Lebanese minister said that after oxygen has run out of the Lebanese hospitals, contacts were made with the Syrian Health Ministry in this regard and the response was in utmost speed.
“Despite the increasing demand on Oxygen in Syria, Damascus’ response was positive which proves that betting on brothers in crises is a correct choice.”
He added that 1,000 COVID-19 patients are currently on respirators in Lebanon, asserting that the existed amount of Oxygen is sufficient to today only.
Lebanon hospitals were facing on Wednesday shortage in Oxygen supply after a delay in the arrival of a giant container ship carrying oxygen tanks. The delay was because of a marine traffic suspension in the Suez Canal due to bad weather.
The Lebanese Minister thanked President Bashar Al-Assad for his order to supply Lebanon with 75 tons of oxygen in three days by 25 tons each day.
The giant container ship loaded with oxygen is expected to arrive in Lebanon on Saturday after delay, according to Hasan.
“Coordination have been underway between the Syrian and Lebanese sides since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, particularly through border crossings, to limit the spread of virus,” the Lebanese Minister went on saying.
He indicated that the possibility of activating cooperation to supply oxygen from the Syrian laboratories was discussed during the visit.
