Iran summoned on Saturday UK ambassador to Tehran Rob Macaire over difficulties created for those Iranians who voted in the United Kingdom.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the UK envoy was summoned after Iranian voters were attacked in several British cities.
After disturbing the election process in some cities in the UK, including London and Birmingham, by some terrorists and ant-democracy elements which resulted in insulting Iranian voters and assault on them, Macaire was summoned by Iranian Deputy Foreign Ministry for West Europe affairs and was informed of Iran’s strong objection against this terrorist measure, Khatibzadeh said, as quoted as saying by IRNA news agency.
He added that Macaire was warned that the UK government and police had failed in their responsibility to safeguard polling stations and voters.
Deputy Foreign Ministry for West Europe affairs “reminded the fact that democracy will be materialized in ballot boxes not in rioters’ moves”, according to Khatibzadeh.
Iran also criticized the UK over sinister and disuniting acts by the Persian Language media like BBC Persian and Iran International which are trying to reinforce sanctioning election and provoking people to start street protests and to disturb election process through media campaign, the spokesman added.
He reiterated that these “anti-democracy measures will remain in Iranians’ memories.”
