The US embassy in Baghdad’s Green Zone was subjected to a missile attack early on Thursday, media reported.
Reuters news agency quoted Iraqi security sources as saying that the embassy’s anti-rocket system diverted one of the rockets.
The second rocket fell near the zone’s perimeter, the sources added.
Sirens blared from the embassy compound inside the zone, which houses government buildings and foreign missions, according to the sources.
France 24 also reported the attack, noting that the embassy itself was not hit, the army said, but three nearby places in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone were.
Iraqi Sabereen News reported that drones were also involved in the strike, noting that three rockets were fired at the area.
