Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs and Tourism, Ramzi Musharrafieh, Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Raoul Nehme, as well as Central Inspection Chief, Judge George Atieh, on Thursday launched the ration card “Support Program” in a joint press conference at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Badaro, during which they explained the application process to benefit from the ration card.
Both Ministers explained that the aforementioned program will benefit 500,000 eligible Lebanese families, and each family member will benefit from $25 dollars for a family of 5 household members max.
An additional $15 dollars will be allocated for each family with an elderly person over 64 years old.
The maximum monthly aid for Lebanese families will not exceed $126 dollars.
The amount will be paid in US dollars or its equivalent in Lebanese pounds according to the exchange market rate at the time of payment, directly to the head of the family via an electronic card or a wallet application on smart phones.
The ration card is funded by multiple sources, most notably $300 million from a World Bank loan allocated to the Roads and Employment Project, and the remaining $300 million from Lebanon’s Special Drawings Rights (SDR), which is authorized by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
