The Lebanese General security agency has intensified efforts to liberate the servicemen abducted by ISIL terrorist group in light of the meeting of the abductees’ families with President Michel Aoun, according to media reports.
The General Director of the General Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim told Al-Joumhuria daily that the agency has been communicating with two mediators for the past two months, adding that the first mediator is in the outskirts of Arsal, and the second is in Syria’s Raqqa.
“They were tasked by the General Security to communicate and negotiate with the kidnappers and investigate the fate of the abductees.”
30 army soldiers and policemen were kidnapped in 2014 during a deadly attack launched by Nusra Front and ISIL terrorist groups on the northeastern border town of Arsal.
16 servicemen, who had been arrested by Nusra, were liberated in December 2015. However, 9 others are still kidnapped by ISIL.
It is worth noting that Nusra terrorists have also executed a number of servicemen in the context of their criminal propaganda.
