Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Wednesday cabled the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the 49th anniversary of the October War.
In his cable to Assad, Berri congratulated Syria on the occasion, hailing the Syrian Arab Army for “heroically defending the nation and Syria’s integrity” during the 18-day war.
The Lebanese speaker expressed his support for Syria’s leadership, army and people “in the battle to defend Golan’s Arabism and in the fight against terrorism, which represents the other side of Israeli aggression.”
Speaker Berri also cabled Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on the occasion, wishing Egypt prosperity, progress and stability.
He hoped for “a leading Arab role for Egypt in all issues and causes of the nation.”
The 6th of October War is a historic victory celebrated every year in Egypt and Syria.
In 1973, Egypt and Syria waged war against the Zionist entity after it occupied the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, the Golan Heights in Syria and the Gaza Strip and West Bank which were under Jordanian rule at the time.
The war commenced on October 6 and officially ended on October 24 with an agreement after a crushing defeat for the Israeli army.
