Emerging as the finest leader mankind ever witnessed, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) has inspired millions of people across history. On his birth anniversary, Al-Manar highlights the divinely guided qualities of his personality as the final messenger of God.
Before getting into Prophet Mohammad leadership characteristics, it’s good to note that leadership, as identified by researchers, is the ability to influence crowds to believe and act toward achieving a common goal.
In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says about Prophet (PBUH) in Surah Al-Anbiya (verse 73): “And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone.”
Let us elucidate qualities which make Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) an ideal leader and what we can learn from him.
Honesty and Truthfulness
The holy prophet was known as Sadiq (honest) and Ameen (trustworthy) and everyone, even his enemies, knew that he could be fully trusted. Before Mabaath (when Prophet was selected to be the messenger of Allah), people used to give him their assets for safekeeping.
Courage and Bravery
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) had great courage. He faced dangers and calamities but never showed any weakness or timidity. Through difficult moments in battles he (PBUH) stayed in the front lines and the pivotal points.
Sticking to Values
The messenger of God stood firm in face of both threats and offers made by Quraish in a bid to force him to abandon his message. He stuck to his divine message despite the harsh blockade he and his companions had been subject to.
Wisdom and Deliberation
Prophet Mohammad was well known for his wisdom as he used to act according to the situation and circumstances. The Prophet (PBUH) made sure that he did not burden his companions more than was necessary, he corrected the wrong, and took suitable decisions in most challenging positions.
Conducting Consultations (Shura)
The prophet (PBUH) took his people and their recommendations seriously. He used to consult his companions in different times and to involve them in decision-making process.
Patience, Leniency and Pardon
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was the epitome of peace and mercy. Whenever he was wronged by anyone, he would forgive them and would refrain from holding grudges.
Unification and Justice
The holy prophet (PBUH) was keen to equate between Muslims and unify them. He established the Moakhat system after the Hijra (migration), he ordered Muslims of Medina (the Ansar) to embrace with love and sincerity the Muslim migrants who settled down in Medina.
Modesty
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was a perfect model of modesty and humbleness. He never spoke loudly or in an unseemly manner. He always passed by the people quietly with a smile. He did not say anything out of respect for the people.
Keenness to Teach People
The messenger of God was keen to raise awareness among his followers. He used to teach them and spent time with them at the mosque.
Setting Out War Ethics
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) gave various injunctions to his followers and adopted moral practices toward the conduct of war. He ordered them not to kill women, children, old and infirm men.
