The head of the Yemeni National Committee for Prisoners Affairs, Abdul Qadir Al-Murtada, announced that the prisoner exchange process between Yemen and Saudi Arabia will commence on Friday.
Al-Murtada shared in a tweet, “Following the announcement of all parties’ readiness to execute the agreed deal, we were informed by the International Committee of the Red Cross that they will commence implementation tomorrow, Friday, Ramadan 23 1444 AH, corresponding to 4/14/2023 AD.”
“We pray for the success and assistance of God in making this deal a triumph and for the liberation of all prisoners,” he further added.
In a similar vein, the Undersecretary of the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights and a member of the government team in the Committee of Prisoners, Abductees, and the Forcibly Disappeared, Majed Fadayel, tweeted that “the exchange process will commence on the morning of Friday, April 14, and will last for three days, with the agreed-upon numbers and mechanism, through six airports and several flights operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross between the airports of Sana’a – Aden and Mokha – Sana’a and Sana’a – Tadawin and Sana’a – Riyadh and Abha – Sana’a and vice versa.”
It is worth noting that the prisoner exchange deal, which involves 706 Yemeni prisoners in exchange for 181 prisoners from the other side, including Saudis and Sudanese, was agreed upon during the last round of negotiations in Switzerland. The implementation of the deal was initially planned for the 19th of Ramadan but was delayed until the 23rd due to the parties’ aggression in Maarib claiming that it was not ready.
