On the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly, the representatives of the G5 states, mulling the presidential elections in Lebanon, held a meeting in New York.
According to Al-Manar sources, the meeting lasted for 30 minutes and discussed the outcomes of the latest visit paid by the French Presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian to Lebanon.
The conferees did not issue a statement in the aftermath of the meeting, which reflects a kind of coverage for the French-Saudi moves in Lebanon.
During his last week’s visit to Lebanon, Le Drian voiced a complete support to the parliamentary dialogue, expected to be called for by House Speaker Nabih Berri early October.
Al-Manar sources also noted that Le Drian showed enthusiasm about the idea that Speaker Berri runs the dialogue.
Speaker Berri had indicated that he would call for a parliamentary dialogue to end the presidential vacuum early October unless a surprise happened.
Meanwhile, the Saudi ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Al-Bukhari, hosted a meeting for most of the Sunni MPs at his residence in presence of the Mufti Adullatif Derian. The move has been seen as a step that supports Speaker Berri’s initiative.
