Amid the ongoing Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip and Arab and Islamic silence, the US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman has returned to the Red Sea, a move that poses a new challenge to Yemen and its Armed Forces.
The US bets on the possibility of subduing the Yemenis this time and forcing them to retreat, after they launched a direct and preemptive aggression against the capital, Sana’a, and a number of governorates.
However, the Yemeni response was swift. Within 72 hours, the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out four targeted operations targeting the aircraft carrier and its accompanying ships using missiles and drones, a threat that has become a nightmare for the US administration.
In the context of mutual military escalation, the Yemeni Armed Forces’ targeting of the US aircraft carrier Truman does not fall within the scope of limited tactical operations, but rather falls within the framework of a preemptive deterrence strategy aimed at thwarting the US carrier’s aggressive activities against Yemen, military affairs researcher Zain Al-Abidin Othman explains to Al-Massirah TV Channel.
He pointed out that the Yemeni forces have developed their targeting mechanisms, in terms of timing and the type of weapons used, to ensure an effective deterrent effect against the ship and force it to leave the area of operations toward the far north of the Red Sea.
The USS Harry Truman was severely damaged after being targeted by the Houthis with more than 18 missiles. There are news that it was towed to Egypt after being put out of service. Despite Yemeni forces’ engagement in confronting the American enemy on the one hand, and imposing a ban on Israeli navigation on the other, they succeeded in targeting the USS Truman, relying on advanced military and intelligence capabilities that strengthened their superiority on the naval battlefield, the researcher added, according to Al-Massirah
This military and intelligence achievement has given Yemeni forces exceptional capabilities to effectively manage naval combat and minimize losses resulting from any air aggression. Meanwhile, it has placed US forces under constant pressure and made them more cautious in their movements in the Red Sea.
Othman asserts that Yemeni operations will not stop at a certain level.
The Yemeni operations “will continue to escalate and expand the scope of strikes until the US hegemony is broken and a true deterrent equation is imposed.”
He said that targeting the USS Harry Truman and US ships is only the first phase of an escalation strategy, and that the Yemeni Armed Forces are prepared to take more daring military action, including targeting US interests in the region, whether military or economic.
