Iran has called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take a definitive stance regarding the escalating threats against its peaceful nuclear facilities. This appeal came during a meeting in Tehran on Wednesday between Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who is currently on a visit to the Iranian capital.
The discussions were prompted by heightened rhetoric from ‘Israel’, which has issued renewed threats targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Additionally, the shadow of previous US administrations looms large, with officials—most notably from the Trump administration—having made similar threats regarding potential military action against Iran’s nuclear sites.

Araghchi emphasized the necessity for the IAEA to maintain impartiality and resist external political pressures, insisting that the agency uphold its technical and professional mandate. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to full cooperation with the IAEA, while pointing out that the agency must not be swayed by the unfounded allegations often made by the U.S. and its allies regarding Iran’s nuclear energy program.
These allegations, which suggest a shift towards nuclear weapons capability, have been repeatedly discredited by the IAEA, which has found no evidence to support such claims. Despite this, Western countries have leveraged these accusations to push for anti-Iranian resolutions within the IAEA’s Board of Governors.
In previous statements, Araghchi has urged the IAEA to denounce these threats as violations of international law and the United Nations Charter. During the meeting, Grossi acknowledged the importance of direct dialogue with Iranian officials and expressed a commitment to fostering ongoing cooperation.
Grossi’s visit also coincides with indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, facilitated by Oman, aimed at addressing the contentious issue of US sanctions and Iran’s nuclear program. Araghchi updated Grossi on the status of these talks, which the IAEA chief welcomed, expressing optimism about their potential outcomes.
