Iranian police have killed four ISIL-linked gunmen in the country’s southern province, seizing their arms and ammunition as well as their flag.
Azizollah Maleki, the police chief in Hormozgan Province, where the terrorists were killed during a firefight with security forces, said the forces confronted the foursome on Sunday in a mountainous terrain near the province’s Roudan Country, 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) southeast of Tehran.
“Intelligence work and the monitoring of current news about movements by a group of armed terrorists in the east of Hormozgan had the issue placed on the police’s special agenda,” he said.
Maleki said police confiscated an ISIL flag and four machine guns, bullets and some explosives. He added that two of the four were foreigners.
Police forces took further operational and intelligence measures, tracking the group’s movements and identifying the places frequented by them.
Five ISIL-linked attackers stormed Iran’s parliament and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini shrine on Wednesday, setting off clashes with security forces and killing at least 17 people and injuring more than 50.
