Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Friday announced the full liberation of the last bastion of ISIL Takfiri group in the country.
In a statement released by the premier’s office, Abadi “congratulated the people of Iraq for the liberation of al-Qaim by the heroes.”
Abadi, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of Iraqi forces hailed the “liberation of al-Qaim in record time.”
Iraqi troops from the army and the elite Counter Terrorism Service, backed by Hashd Shaabi volunteer forces entered the center of Al-Qaim city early on Friday, just a week after the operation to regain control of the western province near Syria border started.
