Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, told Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Saturday that Tehran will not back down from its national rights especially as the United States has shown no honesty and cannot be trusted.
“We will pursue our legitimate rights with intelligence and strength on the diplomatic front, just as we defended our country with courage and authority on the battlefield,” Ghalibaf said during talks in Tehran.
“Military men know the value of peace better than others, but they will never allow their country’s dignity and rights to be trampled,” he added.
Ghalibaf also blamed Washington for launching hostilities while negotiations were still ongoing. “We were in a ceasefire that you (Pakistan) had helped broker, when the United States broke its word, imposed a naval blockade, and now it seeks to lift that blockade,” he said.
He warned that Iran’s armed forces have used the truce period to rebuild their strength. “If Trump acts foolishly and restarts the war, it will certainly be more crushing and bitter for America than the first day of the war.”
For his part, Pakistan’s army chief expressed solidarity with the Iranian people. “The government and people of Pakistan hold the best wishes and prayers for the future of Iran,” Munir said.
“You and I are both soldiers of our nations, and soldiers speak without stuttering and with honesty,” Munir added. He said he was pleased that Iran is led by intelligent people with high vision at this critical juncture.
The meeting was the latest in a packed day of talks for Munir, who also met with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and joined a session with President Masoud Pezeshkian.
