Qalibaf, Araghchi: ‘Leader’s Word Is Our Red Line’ in US Talks

Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have jointly vowed to treat the directives of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as their unwavering compass in upcoming negotiations with the United States, promising never to allow the “American-Zionist enemy” to undermine Iranian rights or those of the Axis of Resistance.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Qalibaf stressed that the recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) is not the final destination but merely the beginning of a “difficult and complex struggle” to fully secure Iran’s legitimate rights from a “covenant-breaking” adversary. He affirmed that all Iranian officials will adhere strictly to the Leader’s strategic guidance throughout the negotiating process.

The MoU, which has set in motion a 60-day negotiation period, calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts, the removal of the US naval blockade within 30 days, the restoration of commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a reconstruction package worth at least $300 billion, and the full lifting of US sanctions. In-person negotiations are scheduled to commence on June 19 in Switzerland, with Pakistan and Qatar serving as mediators.

Foreign minister: ‘We will spare no effort’

In his own response to the Leader’s strategic message, Foreign Minister Araghchi echoed the parliamentary speaker’s resolve, pledging that the foreign ministry will exercise “vigilance, prudence and steadfastness” to uphold Iran’s interests and independence.

Writing directly to the Supreme Leader, Araghchi stated: “I honour your wise and path-opening message and am grateful for your guidance, support and valuable trust. This caring direction will undoubtedly serve as a solid foundation to safeguard national dignity, protect the rights of the great Iranian people and responsibly advance the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.”

The foreign minister further assured that during the sacred days of Muharram, with reliance on God and the Imams, and with full commitment to the Leader’s directives, the entire capacity of the country’s foreign policy apparatus will be devoted to securing Iran’s interests, preserving the rights of its people, and safeguarding the nation’s dignity, independence and authority.

“We will spare no effort to achieve these goals and protect national interests,” Araghchi concluded, reinforcing Tehran’s unified stance as the clock ticks toward the June 19 negotiations in Switzerland.
