Head of the Higher Shiite Islamic Council in Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, denounced on Saturday the French Magazine Charlie Hebdo’s offensive act of republishing the prophet cartoons, calling on the Islamic and Christian religious scholars to confront racism shown by this magazine.
Meanwhile, a large number of protestors took to street to condemn the French magazine’s offense against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and all the Islamic world, stressing that it has noting to do with the freedom of speech.
The cover of the latest Charlie Hebdo issue shows a dozen cartoons first published by the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten in 2005 — and then reprinted by Charlie Hebdo in 2006 — which unleashed a storm of anger across the Muslim world.
