Syria’s permanent representative at the United Nations, Bashar Jaafari said the draft resolution handed by Qatar and Liechtenstein proves hypocrisy of states leading the aggression against Syria.
During a UN General Assembly session on Wednesday, Jaafari denounced the resolution which calls to set up a panel to gather evidence on war crimes in Syria.
The draft resolution “proves hypocrisy as it shows the real intention of the states leading the aggression against Syria which is to undermine the political settlement (of the crisis) and national reconciliation (taking place in the country),” Jaafari told the assembly.
The Syrian envoy meanwhile, said that the resolution doesn’t help in countering terrorism, but rather it preserves it.
Jaafari noted that the resolution will be biased since it will be funded from foreign donations.
In this context, the Syrian diplomat warned that terrorism is threatening the European countries due to wrong policy adopted by several states.
The UN General Assembly has adopted the resolution on Wednesday by a vote of 105 to 15, with 52 abstentions.
The measure prepared by Liechtenstein was co-sponsored by 58 countries including the United States, France, Britain, Italy and Germany as well as regional powers Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
