Gaza-based resistance groups launched on Tuesday a large-scale military drill in the besieged enclave, as they stressed that Israeli threats have nothing to do with the Palestinian resistance.
Coinciding with the eighteenth anniversary of the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005, the drill, codenamed Al-Rukn Al-Shadid – 4 (Mighty Pillar), involved various units of the resistance factions and took place in various regions across coastal strip.
They kicked off at 7:00 a.m. local time (04:00 GMT) and wrapped up at 11:00 a.m., Palestinian media reported.
The Joint Operations Room of Palestinian Resistance Factions announced that the drill is part of an annual exercise staged by the resistance factions.
The maneuver sends a message of full readiness to the Israeli enemy, a military official from the joint room said, as quoted by Palestinian media.
“During the drill offensives on Israeli settlements, infiltrations and abduction attacks will be simulated,” the official said.
Earlier on Sunday, the joint room confirmed that it had conducted a reconnaissance and inspection tour of military sites and surveillance points along the separation barrier between the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied territories.
It stressed that the tour was undertaken to ensure Palestinian resistance fighters’ preparedness to confront any military confrontation with Israeli forces in the highly strategic Gaza Strip.
