Yemen’s Popular Committees lashed out at Ali Abdullah Saleh, saying the ex-president stabbed the committees in the back by calling them ‘militias’.
In a statement released late Tuesday, the popular committees called Saleh a ‘traitor’ and warned that he would “bear the consequences” of calling the committees who have been confronting the Saudi-led aggression ‘militias’.
“We have been stabbed in the back and called a militia, which is treason in its purest form,” read the statement.
“What he (Saleh) said crosses the red line… and he will have to bear the consequences of his words.”
Saleh, who has been an ally for Ansarullah revolutionary movement, dismissed on Sunday the popular committees as ‘militias’ in a clear shift in his stance.
