Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, heaped praise Thursday on the Pope’s imminent visit to Iraq, saying such trip highlights the importance of “anchoring humanitarian fraternity” amid the ongoing conditiions.
Speaker Berri stressed that Pope’s visit to Iraq highlights the common notions between Islam and Christianity, underscoring the importance of his eeting with the top Shiite Cleric, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Sistani.
Separately, Berri met with Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad-Jalal Firouznia, with talks touching on the current general situation on the local and regional scenes.
The discussion also tackled the Lebanese-Iranian bilateral relations.
