Iraq’s volunteer forces fighting along with the army against Takfiri terrorists said on Friday that a rocket hit a gathering of its commanders in Tal Afar airbase on Thursday, stressing that the attack was launched by an aircraft and not by the Takfiri insurgents.
In a statement, the Popular Mobilization Forces said a gathering of its forces’ commanders in Tal Afar airbase was subjected to a rocket attack on Thursday afternoon.
The PMF said that several fighters were injured in the attack which took place shortly after Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi left the meeting.
“An investigation committee was formed,” the statement said stressing that the rocket was not launched by Takfiri terrorists but by an aircraft.
“During the meeting, US-led coalition planes were operating in the skies over Tal Afar airbase,” the PMF said in the statement.
In this regard, the PMF called on the coalition to clarify Thursday’s attack, noting that the US-led coalition has been, since the start of Mosaul operation, monitoring the movements of the volunteer forces.
“We will have a clear stance after completion of the investigation,” the statement concluded.
