Judicial investigator in the case of the Beirut port explosion, Judge Fadi Sawan, has suspended the investigations into the case for ten days, the legal deadline during which the judicial investigator must submit his response to the request submitted by former ministers Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zeaiter, that the case be removed from the custody of Judge Sawan and transferred to another investigator.
Sawan, dismissed the questioning of caretaker Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, which was scheduled for tomorrow (Friday), until the Criminal Court of Cassation, headed by Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar, issues its ruling over the claim submitted by former ministers Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zeaiter, in which they requested that the case be removed from the custody of Judge Sawan.
Judge Sawan had pressed charges against Diab and the three former ministers for “negligence and causing death and harm to hundreds of people.”
Two massive explosions rocked the port on August 4, killing around 195 people and wounding more than 6000.
The blast also destroyed most of the port’s constructions and damaged a huge number of buildings in the capital and its suburbs.
