Russia has warned that any Challenger 2 tanks that Britain sends to Ukraine to help the war effort “will burn”.
British prime minister Rishi Sunak confirmed the UK will provide Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine during a call with Volodymyr Zelensky over the weekend.
Responding on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said new arms supplies from countries like Britain and Poland would not change the situation on the ground.
“They are using this country as a tool to achieve their anti-Russian goals,” he added. “These tanks are burning and will burn just like the rest.”
Meanwhile, Russia and Belarus began joint air force drills today, which have triggered fears that Moscow could use its ally to launch a new ground offensive in Ukraine.

Since a grim New Year’s Eve message describing the West as Russia’s true enemy in the war on Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin has sent several signals that Russia will not back down. He has dispatched hypersonic missiles to the Atlantic and appointed his top general to run the war.
Kremlin reacts to blast at residential building in Ukraine
Ukraine is to blame for the deadly blast at a residential building in the city of Dnepr on Saturday that killed dozens of people and even some Kiev officials have said so, the Kremlin spokesman Peskov has said.
“The Russian Armed Forces don’t target residential buildings or social infrastructure facilities. The attacks are only aimed at military targets,” Peskov told journalists.
“You’ve seen the conclusions of the representatives of the Ukrainian side, which say that this tragedy was the result of the actions of the air defense missiles,” he pointed out.
According to the latest data from the Ukrainian Emergencies Services, at least 36 people were killed and 75 others in the explosion, which delivered heavy damage to the building. The rescue operation saw almost 40 people being recovered from the rubble. However, the fate of 34 residents remains unknown, the agency said.
