In a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian declared that Iran will definitely respond to and punish ‘Israel’ for its recent terrorist attack on the Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus. The attack, which took place in the Mezzeh neighborhood, resulted in the deaths of several Iranian officials, including senior commanders of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force.
Amir-Abdollahian pointed fingers at the United States, holding it directly responsible for Israel’s crimes and acts of madness. He also highlighted intelligence reports indicating significant divisions among Israeli officials. Despite this, he affirmed that the resistance front remains strong and ready to continue its battle against Israel’s atrocities.

The Iranian minister stressed the urgent need for international action to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, who have been subjected to Israel’s brutal war crimes and ongoing blockade. Since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October, thousands of Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed or injured, while the regime continues to deny them basic necessities like fuel, electricity, and food.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad echoed Iran’s stance, emphasizing the common fight against terrorism shared by Iran and Syria. He firmly stated that Israel’s attacks on Syria will not aid the regime in compensating for its defeats. Al-Assad further highlighted the collective responsibility, both regional and international, to provide economic and humanitarian support to the Palestinian people.
Amir-Abdollahian’s visit to Damascus is part of his wider regional tour, which includes meetings with officials in Oman and Yemen. In discussions with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi and Yemen’s senior representative Mohammed Abdulsalam, they addressed the improvement of Tehran-Muscat ties and the vital role of Oman in the ongoing sanctions removal talks. They also discussed the continuous war crimes committed by ‘Israel’ against Palestinians and the necessity of taking deterrent action.
