Huge crowds of demonstrators converged outside Sudan’s army headquarters Thursday after protest leaders called for a “million-strong” march demanding that the ruling military council hand power to a civilian administration.

Demonstrators packed all the roads leading to the central Khartoum army complex, chanting slogans demanding punishment for officials who served under toppled president Omar al-Bashir, an AFP correspondent reported from the protest site.
