Recent armed clashes across Sudan have led to a new death toll of 56 people and injuries to 595 as of Sunday, according to the Sudan Doctors Central Committee.
The ongoing fighting has led to heavy bombing and violent gunfights in several areas throughout the country. Of the recorded deaths, 25 people were killed in the capital city of Khartoum, including 17 civilians. Unfortunately, these numbers do not include those still unaccounted for due to the disruptions in rescue efforts caused by the military confrontations.
The Sudanese Army’s General Command has now announced that they will be sending warplanes to sweep areas throughout the region in search of RFS members and has urged all citizens to remain indoors.
Tensions in Sudan have risen in recent weeks after the decision to delay the signing of the final agreement intended to create a transitional civil authority in the country. The military has since taken control of RSF headquarters in Omdurman, seizing all equipment and vehicles left behind by the retreating units. Ongoing air and land operations by the military are now underway in an effort to force the RFS to surrender.
According to media reports, three employees of the World Food Programme were also killed in an exchange of fire at a military base located in the western Sudanese town of Kabkabiya.
