Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, currently in China for a ministerial meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday morning.
Araqchi is in China to participate in the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting of the SCO. He and his foreign counterparts held discussions with President Xi Jinping in the Chinese capital.

Upon his arrival, Araqchi spoke to reporters, highlighting the SCO’s growing influence. He stated that the organization is evolving beyond a purely regional body, gaining elevated stature on the global stage to address diverse political, economic, and security challenges.
The Iranian foreign minister noted that the upcoming ministerial meeting will focus on strategies to enhance the SCO’s role in the energy and trade sectors. Participants will also discuss the latest international developments.
Araqchi added that he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Chinese and Russian counterparts, as well as other officials from SCO member states, on the sidelines of the event.
Addressing recent incidents, Araqchi pointed to what he described as Israeli and US attacks on Iran and its nuclear facilities. He stated that nearly all international and regional organizations, along with over 120 countries, have condemned these actions and expressed solidarity with Iran.
The Council of Foreign Ministers meeting is set to take place in Tianjin on July 15. The gathering is expected to facilitate an exchange of views on SCO cooperation across various fields and on major international and regional issues, laying the groundwork for an upcoming SCO summit.
